Leica 16-18-21 mm f/4 Tri-Elmar-M Asph with Univ WA Finder

The Leica Tri-Elmar-M 16-18-21mm f/4 Aspherical Lens gives incredible versatility & optical brilliance to the Leica shooter who doesn't need the higher speed of the single-focal-length lenses. The Tri-Elmar is not a zoom, but a three-focal-length lens offering 16mm, 18mm and 21mm choices with a simple twist. Due to the minimal distortion and barely perceptible field curvature, it can be recommended for highly demanding architecture photography even at the 16mm setting. Used on the digital M8, it produces the image effect of a 21 - 28 mm lens, still enabling extreme wide-angle views.
This lens has been updated with the "6-bit" coding, which allows the digital M camera to read this information optically and to identify which lens is being used. The camera can then (optionally) apply a "final stage" software-based vignetting correction (for RAW images the lens used is simply recorded, no change is made).
• Includes "6-bit code" which allows the digital M8 camera to identify which lens is being used, and also to store this information in image metadata
• 2 Aspherical lens elements

Leica's lens manufacturing is designed to deliver high performance lenses that ensure the best possible picture in any given situation. To achieve this goal, in-depth knowledge of the properties of hundreds of types of glass, the effectiveness of complex coatings, precision manufacturing, and customised fine-tuning, is imperative. Leica's latest products, the Summarit lenses are no exception to these exacting standards.

It takes decades of experience to produce perfect image quality. This however is nothing less than the basic requirement when our objective is to supply photographers with equipment capable of achieving pictures of unsurpassed crisp quality, colour brilliance, fullness of detail and richness of contrast.
With its impressive angle of view of 107°, this new TRI-ELMAR conquers 16 mm super wide-angle photography in perfect Leica M style. Due to the minimal distortion and barely perceptible field curvature, it can be recommended for highly demanding architecture photography even at the 16 mm setting. Used on the digital M8, it produces the image effect of a 21 - 28 mm lens, still enabling extreme wide-angle views. The ultra compact shape is achieved by two aspherical elements. A new design of the interior focusing significantly enhances the quality in the close-focus range through an adaption of the floating element principle. Brilliant field depth can therefore be used from a distance of 0.33 m for hyperfocal photography.
