- Technically there is nothing to fault about this lens. As someone who owns and uses the Leica Summicron f2 there really is no difference except that the Zeiss has higher contrast. Both makes feature their own interpretation of colour. Where, I feel the Zeiss is better is in the hood design. The Zeiss hood is metal and removable, the Leica slides in and out. It seems like a good idea but you end up with dings etc, in the hood on an otherwise perfect lens. With the Zeiss all you’ll ever have to do is replace the hood. Also forget about ‘build quality’ issues; the Zeiss is built to an extremely high standard. The Leica is just built differently. The Zeiss is just over six hundred quid, the Leica now two grand. There isn’t twopence worth of difference between the build and image quality of the two, let alone fourteen hundred quids worth.
- Personally I don’t like the bright silver ring on the front mount. It’s purely a cosmetic thing mainly lost when the hood is fitted.
