Celestron NexStart 8SE Astro Phone Photography Kit
The Celestron NexStart 8SE Astro Phone Photography Kit consists of the Celestron NexStar 8SE Computerized Telescope, NexYZ 3-Axis Universal Smartphone Adapter, Moon Filter Set - 1.25”, PowerTank Lithium LT and the SkyMaps Star Charts & Planisphere (Northern) book.
Celestron NexStar 8SE Computerized Telescope
The NexStar 8SE Computerized Telescope is the perfect choice for your first serious telescope. Known affectionately as the “orange tube”, it features an 8 inch Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tube with StarBright XLT optical coating, SkyAlign alignment technology and a smooth, computerised alt-azimuth mount making it perfect for beginners and more experienced astronomers alike at an economical price.
The NexStar 8SE is a reimagining of the classic Celestron 8 which revolutionized amateur astronomy in the 1970’s. The 8SE features the same iconic “orange tube” design but has been updated with all of the latest features to ensure that the user receives the best stargazing experience whether they be an amateur or experienced observer.
The 8SE can display detail in even the faintest celestial objects thanks to the light-gathering abilities of its 8 inch aperture. You will be able to clearly examine the likes of Cassini’s Division in Saturn’s rings, the cloud bands and Great Red Spot of Jupiter as well as all of the craters and geographical features of the Moon.
The 8SE is also capable of going beyond the solar system. You can observe hundreds of pinpoint stars in the Hercules Globular Cluster, the spiral arms of the Whirlpool Galaxy, and more.
The Nexstar 8SE has been designed so that it is quick and easy to set up thanks to its unique, patented single fork arm design and sturdy steel tripod which can all be broken down into separate components for easy transport and quick assembly.
The telescope boasts a sturdy construction, thanks to its high-quality components, which allows the pointing and tracking accuracy needed for you to observe and follow your favorite targets with the simple press of a button. You can use the included Nexstar+ hand control to help you locate over 40,000 celestial objects, or you can take a Sky Tour that lets the 8SE show the best objects currently visible.
You don’t need to have an extensive knowledge of the night sky to get started either. Simply centre any three bright objects in the eyepiece and then press ALIGN. The SkyAlign technology will then work its magic and the telescope will align itself.
NexYZ 3-Axis Universal Smartphone Adapter
The NexYZ 3-Axis Universal Smartphone Adapter is the perfect tool for digiscoping with a wide range of equipment. Unique to Celestron, this adapter’s position can be adjusted on three-axis for the most precise alignment. For use on telescopes, spotting scopes, binoculars, monoculars and microscopes. Compatible with any eyepiece that ranges from 35mm to 60mm in diameter, including telescopes with a 1.25” or 2” eyepiece. It is the complete digiscoping solution for every application.
Unique to Celestron the NexYZ can be adjusted on three different axis points. Centre the smartphone camera over the eyepiece with the X and Y knobs until the entire field of view is in shot, then adjust the Z axis to get the perfect shot.
Celestron Moon Filter Set - 1.25”
This filter set from Celestron contains all you will need to view the Moon during its various phases. One of the most common objects to view in the sky for seasoned and amateur astronomers alike due to its proximity and geographical features, observe the Moon with reduced brightness and clarity even in light-polluted areas.
Included in this kit are three Neutral Density (ND) filters that dim the entire visual spectrum from 400-700nm equally. The three filters allow you to select the best light transmission for the lunar cycle. The ND96-0.9 filter transmits 13% of the incoming light, the ND96-0.6 transmits 25% and the ND96-0.3 transmits 50%. None of these ND filters will shift the colour of the Moon, they will only reduce lunar brightness and help with eye fatigue.
Celestron PowerTank Lithium LT
The PowerTank Lithium LT battery is the best battery on the market for powering telescopes. Designed by astronomers for astronomers, this 12-volt battery will regulate voltage output to ensure a steady stream of power, protecting the telescope’s delicate engineering.
Celestron SkyMaps Star Charts & Planisphere (Northern)
The Celestron SkyMaps Star Charts & Planisphere allows you to learn the night skies of the Northern Hemisphere. Contains a collection of seasonal star charts with a glow-in-the-dark luminous star finder, a rotatable star wheel that can be aligned with any date and time (past, present & future), resulting in a display of the night sky for that period of time.

Can you mount a camera to the telescope for astro-photography?
Yes you can. However, you will need to purchase the Celestron T-Adapter for Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope as well as the relevant T-ring for your camera such as the Canon EOS T-Ring or Nikon T-Ring.
What is the heaviest recommended load for mounting a camera in the Fastar / HyperStar configuration?
We recommend a load of no more than 20 lbs. at 4.5 inches away from the 8" Schmidt corrector.
- Never look directly at the Sun with the naked eye or with an optic (unless you have the proper solar filter). Permanent and irreversible eye damage may result.
- Never use your optic to project an image of the Sun onto any surface. Internal heat build-up can damage the optic and any accessories attached to it.
- Never leave your optic unsupervised. Make sure an adult who is familiar with the correct operating procedures is with your optic at all times, especially when children are present.
