We know that the newly announced Canon EOS R3 will be aimed at professional sports and news photographer. Ultra-high-speed and with groundbreaking design, the Canon R3 will provide professional sports and news photographer with the right tools to deliver on the most challenging demands.
The Canon R3 will be a true hybrid, next-generation camera, featuring a new Canon developed BSI stacked CMOS sensor, a DIGIC X imaging processor, the ability to shoot up to 30fps with AF/AE tracking (with eye, head and body detection plus a pioneering new autofocus Eye Control Function).
Built on the revolutionary EOS R System with its unparalleled RF mount, paired with one of Canon's latest super-telephoto lenses (also released on April 14th 2021), the R3 offers capabilities unseen in any other camera and lens duo.
Initial EOS R3 key features announced 14th April 2021:
• New Canon-developed stacked BSI CMOS sensor
• 30fps with AF/AE tracking
• Eye Control Function
• Subject eye and head detection
• Dual Pixel CMOS AF
• 1D series weather resistance
Second EOS R3 key features announced 2nd June 2021:
AF tracking of people, animals (including birds) and motorsports (racing motorbikes and racing cars)
Can record oversampled 4K, or RAW footage internally and Canon Log 3
Focus in light levels -7EV or lower
Capture Fast-moving Subjects with Ease
The pro's will enjoy pin-sharp focus even when shooting RAW at 30fps thanks to Canon's Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology. We've already seen people and animal (including birds) AF tracking technology in the likes of the EOS R5 and EOS R6, however, the EOS R3 take this one step further with the ability to track racing cars and motorbikes, making it the ideal camera for the professional motorsport photographer.
When light conditions are tough, the R3 can even focus in extreme darkness at light levels of -7EV or lower. The EOS R3 offers up to 8-stops of protection against handheld camera shake, it's internal Image Stabiliser technology (IS) combines with the optical IS that's built in to many of the Canon RF Mount lenses, giving professionals the ability to shoot handheld in very low light whilst using longer shutter speeds to create blurred movement.
4K Video Capabilities
The EOS R3 will record oversampled 4K, or users can record RAW footage internally. The R3 also offers Canon Log 3, providing professionals with a great dynamic range to colour grade with. However, most importantly here, the same object recognition that's available for stills is also available in video, so filmmakers can track fast-moving objects around the frame whilst keeping them in tack-sharp focus.
NEW Back-illuminated Sensor
The EOS R3 has a brand new back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor that works together with the DIGIC X image processor to capture high quality RAW images at 30fps with full AF/AE tracking. Flash sync is also now possible with the electronic shutter when working with external Speedlites and the dreaded rolling shutter distortion when shooting fast-moving subject has been reduced.
