Why should I buy the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III?
The E-M1 III takes a lot of the high-end, professional level features from the flagship camera E-M1X and packs them all into an ergonomic, lightweight and ‘take-anywhere’ body. Some of these borrowed features include an upgraded Face and Eye detection AF algorithm, hand held 50MP stills and a built in Live ND filter. Pair these upgrades with brand new features such as the Starry Sky AF and you really do have a compact camera that's packed with professional level elements at a very competitive price.
Even though the 20.4MP Live MOS sensor has been inherited from the Mark II, this doesn’t limit your ability to capture ultra high, full resolution images. Thanks to industry leading in-body image stabilisation and a new True Pic 9 processor, the E-M1 Mark III is still capable of taking 50MP stills, however this is now possible whilst being hand held.
The Mark III does this by taking up to 16 images with miniscule position shifts and stitches them together in-body to produce an exquisite, high resolution image. Attach the Mark III to a tripod and boost your image quality up to 80MP.
Auto Focus Upgrade
The 121pt AF system has been taken from the Mark II but has had Face and Eye phase detection AF algorithm updates that match, if not overtake those currently seen in other market leaders. These upgrades include a face priority feature that allows the user to select the face to prioritise when working with a group of people.
The welcome introduction of a joystick to the rear of the camera speeds up AF selection without having to pull away from the camera.
The Olympus EM1 III delivers high speed performance with no loss in image quality. Thanks to a fantastic frame rate of 18fps with continuous AF and 60fps without, you can rest assured that you won’t be missing any action.
Starry Sky AF
A real turning point for astrophotography, the Mark III introduces Starry Sky AF. This new feature allows the user to autofocus when shooting the night sky which has traditionally only been possible through manual focusing.
Live ND Filter
Achieve long exposure effects in bright conditions with the built-in Live ND Filter. This feature allows you to shoot with up to 5.5 stops of compensation and will show the results of your long exposure before you’ve even taken the shot. Allowing you to make small adjustments to your settings to get the exact required shot.
Robust and Rugged Build
A rugged magnesium body carries the renowned Olympus dust, splash and freezeproof design which aids the photographer to shoot in almost any situation.
Stabilising camera shake by up to 7.5 stops, this allows the photographer to take up to 4 second exposures, hand held. Couple this feature with a PRO lens and the Mark III the the ultimate package for wildlife and nature photographers or even those looking to capture hand held light trails at night.
Handheld 4K Filming
The Mark III’s electronic stabilisation combined with in-body 5-axis stabilisation provides a useful tool for filmmakers. This enables the videographer to shoot handheld 4K video content. This model also supports OM-Log400 shooting, which enables shooting without loss of details in highlights and shadows, along with the ability to colour grade in post production.
Keeping with the portability and ‘take anywhere’ ethos, the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III now supports charging via USB-C. Making charging possible from a power bank in remote areas without electricity.
The BLH-1 battery is capable of up to approx. 420 shots and can be fully charged within 2 hours (whilst the camera is turned off). Please note that charging performance varies and is based on the power of the USB charging device.
High resolution images perfect for macro photography.
Weather sealing allows shooting in extreme conditions.
Incredible IS when paired with Olympus Pro lenses.
Who is the E-M1 Mark III for?
Designed and built with professionals in mind, this camera encompasses some of the best high grade features from the Olympus OM-D E-M1X and bundles them into a much smaller and portable body at a very competitive price. This is a huge benefit for adventure seekers and photographers that are constantly on the go.
The weather resistant body aids landscape, wildlife and sports photographers whilst the hand held 50MP tripod attached 80MP capabilities are attractive to portrait photographers.
