Nikon Announces Two New Mirrorless Macro Z Lenses

Nikon Announces Two New Mirrorless Macro Z Lenses

Nikon announced today (June 2nd, 2021) that they are launching two new macro lenses into their NIKKOR Z repertoire, and they are producing some truly beautiful imagery that we couldn’t resist sharing.

NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f2.8 VR S Lens

The flagship of the two is the NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f2.8 VR S Lens, an incredible new S-Line lens with in-built VR, close-range focusing from 0.29m, and bright image quality thanks to the whapping 16 elements in 11 groups (including 3 ED lens elements, 1 aspherical element, and a fluorine-coated front lens element). You can read the full details of the NIKKOR Z MC 105mm Lens here but in the meantime, take a look at the stunning imagery this 105mm beauty is capable of.

Nikon NIKKOR Z MC 50mm f2.8 Lens

The smaller sister to the 105mm is the Nikon NIKKOR Z MC 50mm f2.8 Lens which is more compact and incredibly lightweight. The lens consists of 10 elements in 7 groups (including 1 ED element, 1 aspherical lens element, and a fluorine-coated front lens element) and has three magnification ratios from which to choose including 1:4, 1:2 and 1:1 life-size. It also has an incredible close-focus range of just 5.6cm which really opens up the possibilities of macro photography to a new level. Take a look at how much this little 50mm lens really packs a punch.

First thoughts?

These two macro-lenses are really quite incredible, the 105mm f2.8 does definitely take the cake when it comes to producing images with that velvety quality that defines macro photography and it certainly helps to demonstrate exactly what it is that makes S-Line lenses a cut above the rest and worth the extra money.

Having said that, however, for the beginner who is looking into getting some serious quality macro shots, the 50mm f2.8 will certainly do the trick. It produces lovely smooth bokeh and the 5.6cm minimum focus distance is an absolute advantage when it comes to photographing from some more creative and abstract angles.

Either way, I am certainly looking forward to when these lenses, currently due to be available from the end of June 2021, come into stock and we can get our hands on them!
