Overview
Clifton Cameras is seeking an experienced, proactive, and customer-focused Retail Store Manager to lead our specialist retail store in Staverton. This is a full-time, hands-on role suited to someone with photographic, videography, or optics knowledge, who is passionate about the industry and confident in leading a high-performing retail team.
The ideal candidate will be a keen photographer or videographer with strong product knowledge and a deep understanding of customer needs in this sector. You’ll take full ownership of the in-store experience, ensuring exceptional service, knowledgeable advice, and a commercially driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & People Management
- Lead, coach, and develop the retail team to ensure expert, enthusiastic service at all times.
- Supervise daily team activities, including rotas, holidays, and overall performance.
- Inspire and motivate the team through strong leadership and setting a consistent, high standard.
- Delegate tasks such as cleaning, stocking, and customer support while remaining fully hands-on.
- Take an active role in interviewing, onboarding, and training new team members.
- Monitor staff behaviour, attitude, and presentation to ensure a positive reflection of store values.
- Resolve conflicts professionally between staff or with customers, maintaining a calm store environment.
Customer Service & Experience
- Deliver exceptional, approachable service at all times, treating every customer with warmth and professionalism.
- Greet all visitors consistently—first impressions count.
- Be proactive in resolving customer needs, regardless of the size of the request.
- Go the extra mile—nothing is too much trouble if it enhances the customer’s experience.
- Maintain ongoing customer relationships to encourage repeat business and customer loyalty.
- Share product knowledge confidently and lead the team in offering informed recommendations.
Store Operations & Visual Merchandising
- Oversee all store operations, including opening/closing, stock control, and compliance with procedures.
- Ensure displays follow planograms, are clean, well-ticketed, and effectively merchandise key products.
- Maintain till accuracy, manage cash handling, and ensure health & safety standards are met.
- Schedule staff to cover store hours efficiently, avoiding overtime unless essential.
- Report regularly on key store metrics and performance versus financial goals.
- Work with the Marketing Team to ensure all POS (print and digital) is up to date and on brand.
Communication & Collaboration
- Liaise with the General Manager and wider departments to ensure effective cross-team communication.
- Collaborate with the Buying Team to ensure stock reflects customer needs and in-store demand.
- Provide regular updates to management on team performance, store feedback, and improvement ideas.
Requirements & Skills
- Previous experience in retail management or supervisory roles.
- Strong product knowledge in photography, videography, or optics—ideally a keen photographer or videographer.
- Computer literate and confident using retail systems, customer databases, and reporting tools.
- Commercial awareness, including an understanding of profit margins, discounting, and bundled sales.
- Natural motivator with excellent communication, leadership, and delegation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to enhance customer experience through service and relevant product recommendations.
- Adaptable, proactive, and capable of handling fast-paced retail demands with a calm and professional manner.
