Cassegrain telescopes are perfect for the amateur astronomer looking for quality optics. They use a combination of mirrors and lenses and this unique design means that the telescopes can offer large-diameter optics in a very short tube length so that they are very portable. There are two different versions of this design, the Schmidt-Cassegrain and the Maksutov-Cassegrain.

One of the main differences between the two is the size of the aperture. The NexStar 8SE and NexStar 5SE Computerised Telescopes both feature the Schmidt-Cassegrain whereas the Nexstar 4SE or Nexstar 127SLT models both come equipped with the smaller Maksutov-Cassegrain.

8SE - The world’s most beloved telescope

For the best in the business, buy the NexStar 8SE. The classic 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tube first revolutionised amateur astronomy in the 1970s. Still going strong today, this impressive telescope with StarBright XLT optical coating makes every star, planet and deep sky object appear bright in the eyepiece. Its fully automated mount and SkyAlign technology will find all the best objects currently visible to you on the night.

5SE - As perfect for beginners as it is for seasoned pros

The NexStar 5SE has excellent light-gathering abilities thanks to its 5-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain optical tube. It comes with the same impressive automated star-finder features of the signature orange tube telescope, however at a more affordable price. It is also more lightweight making it easy to transport to dark-sky locations because the best telescope is the one that you can use most.

4SE - The telescope that grows with you

The NexStar 4SE is a pro telescope that is perfect for someone looking to get more serious about astronomy. The 4SE comes with a 25mm eyepiece which is ideal for locating objects in the sky. The potential to grow this kit by adding new eyepieces with higher magnification, gaining GPS functionality with SkySync, or automatic alignments functionality with StarSens AutoAlign means this telescope will grow with you.

127SLT - A user-friendly entry to our Solar System

The NexStar 127SLT (Star Locating Telescope) can pinpoint stars at the push of a button, offering instant astronomy satisfaction. The fully computerised Altazimuth mount is quick to centre on objects and the two included eyepieces offer high and low-powered observing, ideal for first exploring the night sky.
