Amazingly sharp and bright image with stunning, natural colours along with the fantastic 3D effect only porro's can give. I have 8.5x42 Swaro EL's as well and haven't used them since I got the Habicht, 'nuff said!
Eye relief not great and you have to be careful how you position them but worth the effort. Significant veiling and flaring on open pupil low light when sun is at certain angles.

Very bright, superb contrast, large sweet spot, solid build and waterproof. Some users claim that the focus is stiff, but I do not see any problem here. Certainly, the focus on the Nikon 8x30 Eii is ideal by comparison, but for a porro binocular I'd still rate the focus mechanism on the Habicht as first-class. As regards the lack of objective covers, I found the ideal solution to this problem: simply take the useless objective covers from my wife's Nikon Monarch 7 8x30s and cut them in half (trimming off the rubber bridge) - an almost perfectly snug fit!
Certainly considerably more expensive than the Nikon 8x30 Eii, but the Habichts outperform them marginally in terms of size of sweet spot and noticeably in terms of brightness and whiteness of image, and they're waterproof. But, taking into account the law of diminishing returns, this isn't really such a bad point.

Great bright image with a large sweet spot. Rivals much more expensive roof prism binoculars. Have not noticed the "veiling" that is sometimes commented on these binos. Comfortable to hold.
Overall very happy (and delighted I sent back the Leica HD Ultra I had previously purchased elsewhere).
No real bad points although probably a bit basic compared with very top end binos. Perhaps a slightly more awkward shape and arguably a bit old fashioned compared with more modern designs. Neither of which bother me in the slightest. :-)

Hexham GB I enjoy good binoculars

1. The optics really are very good and I now understand why these are used as reference binoculars. To be honest I find that with my eyes in many situations the Habicht is no better than my Nikon E2 or SE but sometimes the Habicht seems to have a "sparkle" that is just not achieved by these Nikons. Perhaps this is due to the Habicht's intrinsic brightness and neutrality.
2. Easy to use with no blackouts etc.
3. Build quality feels good in the hands.
3. Diopter is easy to set and stable (has not moved after several weeks use).
4. Waterproofing is a usefull feature and so i expect the inner workings will remain in good condition for many years to come (eg internal condensation).
1. The focus wheel is surprisingly stiff. I knew about this issue before the purchase but was still surprised with just how stiff the focus wheel really is. I have got used to this, and yes it is getting easier but focusing with a Nikon E2 or SE is faster.
2. There is more blurring/distortion on the edges of the view than i expected. This does not worry me because i do not "study" the edges but flat field fanatics may not like this.
