A sensible length and weight vs. the required stability. Extending the central column is a poor idea, especially when this is circular, as is often said. The more advanced model has replaced this with a hexagonal column – but costs £100 more.
The advertised 'snap-shut around 35°' leg locking feature failed to work as advertised; one needs to keep turning to ensure there is no collapse. The company website leads one to think that the ball head may be removed 'with 4 grub screws', but there is no obvious way of removing it to replace it with another. The supplied ball is tiny, not apparently as strong as the main structure, and suffers a sprung security pin that merely makes it tedious to apply or remove the shoe or L-bracket. Sadly disappointing. The sprung mechanism for choosing between the 3 leg angles is a little cumbersome.
