Celestron Moon Filter Set - 1.25”

This filter set from Celestron contains all you will need to view the Moon during its various phases. One of the most common objects to view in the sky for seasoned and amateur astronomers alike due to its proximity and geographical features, observe the Moon with reduced brightness and clarity even in light-polluted areas.

Three Neutral Density Filters: ND96-0.9 13% T, ND96-0.6 25% T, and ND96-0.3 50% T

Included in this kit are three Neutral Density (ND) filters that dim the entire visual spectrum from 400-700nm equally. The three filters allow you to select the best light transmission for the lunar cycle.  The ND96-0.9 filter transmits 13% of the incoming light, the ND96-0.6 transmits 25% and the ND96-0.3 transmits 50%. None of these ND filters will shift the colour of the Moon, they will only reduce lunar brightness and help with eye fatigue.

One Moon & Sky Glow Filter

This filter improves contrast for lunar features by selectively reducing light transmission at different wavelengths. It imparts a very light purple colour on the Moon which can be helpful in light-polluted skies as it blocks wavelengths such as low-pressure sodium (LPS) street lights.

Moon Map and Legend Included

Included in this set is a Moon map and legend to help you familiarise yourself with the lunar surface. The legend highlights 17 key features to explore including the Sea of Tranquility, Tycho, Plato, Copernicus, and many more. The set also includes a free download of ‘Lunar Landscapes: The Photography of Robert Reeves’ which delves into fascinating detail of the Moons natural history.

FAQs

Can these filters be used on other planets?

They can be used on other planets and celestial objects. The ND filters, for example, can be used to reduce the glare from Venus to better see its crescent phases, and to help dim bright daytime views when using a telescope terrestrially. It is not suitable for viewing the Sun.

Who is this filter best for?

We can all observe the Moon every clear night so this is often the best place to start for any budding amateur astronomers. The Moon Filters will provide instant impact and improve the brightness of the moon making it easier to view. This is also excellent for any seasoned astronomers looking to complete their set.

Why are filters important?

Filters help our eyes to relax when looking at a bright planet through a telescope. Just as we often wear sunglasses on a bright day to help relax our eyes from the glare, filters do the same and make the viewing experience much more comfortable and let you see extra details on the planet surface.

What telescopes does this go well with?

It is compatible with the vast majority of 1.25” eyepieces, for example, the ones included with the Celestron 114LCM Computerised Telescope or the Celestron Nexstar 127 SLT Computerised Telescope.
