RASA optical technology
The Celestron Origin features a 6” RASA (Rowe-Ackermann Schmidt Astrograph) optical tube with an integrated camera, producing an ultra-fast f/2.2 system with an extraordinarily wide field of view while providing sharp images to the edge. A strong focus on speed, aperture, and performance ensures unparalleled image detail, even during short exposure times.
To complement the RASA optics, Origin uses a Sony IMX178 colour CMOS sensor to capture your data. This relies on the high sensitivity and fast, low-noise readout of the STARVIS back-illuminated technology, crafting clear images as quickly as possible.
AI-powered astrophotography
The Origin home observatory doesn’t require external WiFi networks, so can be set up anywhere you like, for your clearest night skies.
Sophisticated AI algorithms automatically stack and process each frame in real time as the telescope gathers data. The end result is a breathtaking display of detail and colour that allows even those who have never used a telescope to enjoy astroimaging.
StarSense technology and the Origin app
An automated initialisation process powered by StarSense technology makes setting up your Origin Home Observatory simple. By connecting to the Origin app your telescope can then focus itself, scan the night sky, and align itself by matching the star patterns overhead with its internal database.
When you’re ready to start exploring, an intuitive planetarium interface helps simplify navigation through the night sky so you can find galaxies, nebulae, star clusters, and more. After you’ve selected the celestial object you want to view, Origin will center it precisely in the field of view, for the best viewing experience. Using the camera view you can then capture 10-second exposures.
Origin will also keep the targeted object focussed by continually tracking the sky and will automatically adjust its built-in dew prevention system to keep your images razor-sharp.
Further updates planned to the app will allow you to use Origin for long-exposure astroimaging.
Share your cosmic experience
Multiple people can connect to Origin at once to stream the view on their own devices. Plus, you can cast the live feed to your smart TV or instantly save and share your astrophotography, so friends and family can all view your most memorable moments.
Advanced features
More advanced features and functionality are possible with the Origin Intelligent Home Observatory, so you can slowly ease your way into more advanced and technical uses.
Standard 1.25 "and 2" format filters are accepted in the Origin's built-in filter drawer. In light-polluted environments like suburban back gardens, optional filters can be installed, ideal for imaging nebulae. Remove the filter to get higher light-throughput and brighter images when observing broadband objects like galaxies and star clusters or those against dark skies. Using these removable and interchangeable filters will give you results that aren't possible with fixed filters on other systems.
Origin will also store all your raw images for you. Connect via USB to import them into your favourite image-processing software for manual editing and stacking.
You can even set up the telescope, tell the app which objects you want to capture, and leave it to do its thing while you sleep, via the scheduled observations feature.
Capture landscapes and scenery
This portable kit contains an optical tube, mount, and tripod that each weigh less than 16 lbs and are all easy to assemble and disassemble without tools.
Origin can also be used to capture incredible views of land-based objects along the horizon, whether day or night. You can adjust the manual focus of the Origin to capture stunning scenery during the day, as well as distinguishing objects in dim light approaching nighttime.

Does it only work with a smartphone or tablet to view objects?
Yes. Rather than using an eyepiece, the Celestron ORIGIN Intelligent Home Observatory works with smartphones and tablets through the Origin app. Because of the low light levels inherent in astronomy, Origin’s CMOS sensor can process more photons faster than the human eye and then deliver the images it captures to your phone or tablet.
