Red flashlight

A red flashlight is one of the most beneficial accessories to own as an amateur astronomer. The red light is ideal for astronomy as it maintains dark adaptation for nighttime viewing, allowing you to see charts and telescope settings without forcing the iris to contract. The three brightness levels allow you to adjust the brightness depending on the observation site. It is the perfect astronomy flashlight.

FAQs

Why is a red flashlight good for astronomy?

A red light is used to maintain dark adaption for nighttime viewing. This means that when moving to view items such as a star chart or your telescope settings you are not requiring your pupils to contract and dilate as you switch between artificial light and the darkness of the night sky. A red light is chosen for this use because of where it falls on the visible light spectrum that allows the photoreceptors in our eyes to be able to see in very low light levels.

Can this charge my smartphone whilst powering the telescope?

Absolutely. The Celestron PowerTank Glow 5000 can be used to power any mobile device including smartphones and tablets. It contains enough battery power to fully recharge a smartphone whilst also powering your telescope
