Celestron PowerTank Lithium LT

The PowerTank Lithium LT battery is the best battery on the market for powering telescopes. Designed by astronomers for astronomers, this 12-volt battery will regulate voltage output to ensure a steady stream of power, protecting the telescope’s delicate engineering.

For astronomers by astronomers

Celestron’s telescope engineers worked directly with the battery suppliers in order to create a battery that would work specifically for the unique requirements of a telescope. Telescopes are highly sensitive to voltage, to power a telescope with a lower-than-optimal voltage can cause strain on the motors and even glitching. The PowerTank Lithium LT uses a built-in voltage regulator to ensure at least 11.8 volts are being delivered right until the battery is depleted and shuts off.

The best battery on the market

As well as the significantly improved voltage regulator the chemical composition of the battery itself is designed for optimal performance. Built with Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide [LiNiMnCoO2] or NMC technology the PowerTank Lithium LT will deliver a steady charge over a long period of time. Compared to the more commonly used Lithium Cobalt Oxide which has a shorter shelf life and number of charge cycles. Furthermore, the  Celestron battery cannot over-discharge or over-charge for safer and more economical use.

Highly portable

The PowerTank is extremely portable due to its compact size meaning that it is easy to take on an away astro-imaging trip. Not just for telescopes, use this battery for camping gear, in an emergency kit and more. The PowerTank is also flight-safe, at 73.3 watt-hours it meets current FAA regulations (160Wh), for you to take in your carry-on. Please check with your specific airline for any stricter policies and do not place battery in your checked baggage.

Dual charging ports

As well as powering a telescope via a 12V DC port, the PowerTank Lithium LT has an additional 2.1A USB charging port for smartphones and tablets or other accessories that require up to 5V of power.

FAQs

Which telescope is the Celestron PowerTank Lithium LT compatible with?

The PowerTank will power any computerised mount. Including the following Celestron telescopes: Advanced VX, NexStar Evolution, NexStar SLT, LCM series, Astro Fi, NexStar GT, NexStar SE series and SkyProdigy.

What makes the Celestron PowerTank Lithium LT the best battery?

Celestron had this designed for astronomers by astronomers specifically to be the best battery for telescopes. The voltage regulator is safer for the telescope’s engineering and will prevent glitching and potential strain on the motors. The chemical composition is also optimised to have a longer shelf-life and number of charge cycles by not over or undercharging, plus it can withstand 60-degrees C higher temperatures making this battery less likely to experience thermal runaway.

Is the Celestron PowerTank Lithium LT flight safe?

Yes, the current FAA regulations have a maximum 160 watt-hours limit. The Celestron PowerTank Lithium LT has 73.3 Wh, allowing this to be taken on a carry-on. Please check however with your specific airline for any stricter policies and do not place the PowerTank in your checked baggage.
