Why buy the Nikon Coolpix P950?

Adding to the already impressive line-up of bridge cameras, Nikon has launched their 16-megapixel Coolpix P950 which boasts an incredible 83x optical zoom alongside a 166x Dynamic Fine Zoom which extends the reach to a staggering 4000mm. Taking many features from the premium P1000, the updated P950 is set to be a game-changer for adventure and outdoor photographers.

Perfect for the photographer who wants to capture birds and other wildlife, the robust superzoom camera is an update to the Nikon Coolpix P900. The new model allows the photographer to capture distant subjects in extraordinary detail and with exceptional ease, thanks to the bright and fast NIKKOR lens with a wide f2.8 maximum aperture. With functions and capabilities similar to that seen on the P1000, the Nikon Coolpix P950 provides the photographer with a multitude of shooting options. Capture landscapes and scenic images right on through to super zoomed fast-moving birds and wildlife.

This lightweight digital camera also boasts 4K/UHD movies at 30p and comes with a full-size hot shoe mount and mic input. These additions put this compact bridge camera as a strong option for vloggers and enthusiast filmmakers.

The Coolpix P950 camera also supports RAW (NRW) image capture, a capability usually reserved for full-frame mirrorless cameras and DSLRs. This function allows users to take full advantage of the many advanced processing and editing programs on the market.

Nikon Coolpix P950 Key Features

Incredible Zoom
An impressive 83x optical zoom (24-2000 mm) and 166x Dynamic Fine Zoom (4000 mm) will get you closer to the action without disturbing any unpredictable wildlife. Capture wide-angle images (at 24mm equivalent) of outstanding landscapes whilst also being able to capture super-zoomed in images of wildlife and fast-paced action.

Bright and fast NIKKOR Lens
With f/2.8 maximum aperture and Super ED glass to help reduce distortion at high zoom, you’ll be able to keep super sharp images even at the full extent of the focal length.

Standout Shots
Thanks to a 16-megapixel backlit CMOS sensor, fast EXPEED image processor, and Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction, the photographer will be able to capture high-resolution images worthy of wall mounting.

Save and export uncompressed RAW (NRW) images and take full advantage of post-production processing and editing programs. Shoot straight to JPG for quick and easy export and sharing.

4K Movies
A brilliant launch into filmmaking and vlogging thanks to the ability to easily record stereo 4K/UHD 30p footage or Full HD (1080p) video at frame rates of up to 60p. Record in stereo sound and manually adjust key exposure settings while filming.

Full-size Hot Shoe
Mount Nikon accessories like Speedlights and mics. Or try Nikon’s DF-M1 Dot Sight, a foldable scope that helps track even fast-flying birds.

In-Camera Time-Lapse
Capture something different. Record time-lapse movies of approx. 10 seconds duration, which playback at 25 fps or 30 fps.

Vari-angle LCD Monitor
Never miss a hard to reach shot with the help of the bright and large 8.1 cm (3.2 in) 921k-dot LCD monitor. It can be tilted and twisted in almost any direction.

Clear Electronic Viewfinder
A much improved and larger 1 cm (0.39 in) 2360k-dot OLED electronic viewfinder with eye-sensor.

Oxford GB Life is watching birds
The magnification and ease of use are astonishingly good - by far the best bridge camera I've ever had. This is an amazing pice of kit.
It's heavy, but I appreciate this would be difficult to address, and it's a heck of a lot lighter than the equivalent telephoto lenses!
