Why buy the new Nikon D780 DSLR Camera?

The Nikon rumors have come true, the new Full Frame DSLR from Nikon is here, meet the D780! The official announcement came out at CES 2020 alongside the new Coolpix P950 Bridge Camera, an F-Mount 120-300mm f/2.8e lens and a Nikon Z mount 70-200mm f/2.8 lens.

It’s set to be the next step from the Nikon D750, with plenty of new tricks and features up its sleeve. The D780 has a rapid dedicated Hybrid Autofocus system which offers smooth, flawless Live View photography. There is also a top-notch 51-point Phase-Detection AF for shooting with the viewfinder.

The Live View shooting setup has been based around the same technology found in the popular Nikon Z 6 mirrorless system. Advanced Eye-Detection allows you to capture the finer details of your subjects, while Low Light Autofocus gives reliable AF shooting as low as -6EV making the D780 extremely dependable in challenging scenarios. You’ll find tracking to be a breeze when using the viewfinder too - with tracking performance that’s on par with some of the latest flagships on this high-mid range DSLR camera.

How fast is the Nikon D780?

Rapid burst rates make the D780 a high-performing and diverse workhorse. From up to 7FPS bursts in viewfinder mode to 12FPS in silent live view mode. An outstanding max shutter speed of 1/8000 s gives you the ability to synchronise the D780 with Nikon Speedlights. At the other end of the range, photographers will be able to capture stunning long exposures up to 900 s. Great for nightscape photography and beyond.

Is the Nikon D780 good for shooting video?

Nikon’s D780 is also an excellent choice for videographers. The 6K image sensor resolution provides ultra-high res 4K/UHD video. This is with zero crop factor at 30/25/24p. An external movie recorder can be connected to capture HLG HDR footage giving rich imaging that will stun any audience. Preview this directly with a compatible display device.
