Why buy the Sony VG-C4EM Vertical Battery Grip?

The VG-C4EM grip is for the Sony a7R IV and a9 II cameras. Sony has designed the control system to replicate the camera body layout as closely as possible. The design makes it very easy to use and gives a secure and comfortable grip in horizontal or vertical positions.

It'll hold up to 2 NP-FZ100 batteries, effectively doubling the charge life of the camera.

  • Easy vertical shooting

The controls on the VG-C4EM have been designed to match the layout of the A7R IV. This makes it perfect for any vertical shooting and gives comfort and support with the familiarity.

  • A solid grip

The meticulous ergonomic design allows a firm hold on the camera and grip. Focus on your shots, rather than your balance even when shooting vertically and with long lenses.

  • Double your shooting time

Holding up to two NP-FZ100 batteries, the grip will power the camera for almost twice as long. The battery indicator will display both batteries and switch over automatically, supporting your workflow.

  • Of equal strength

The grip is constructed with the magnesium alloy seen in the camera body of the A7R IV. This keeps your camera lightweight and highly durable.

  • Easy USB Charging

The A7R IV's built-in USB charger means you can charge the grip batteries and internal battery without dismantling the camera. Simply plug it in and charge away. Also great for topping up with a power bank (sold here).

  • Resistant sealing

The same sealing standards are found in the grip This will resist any damage caused by dust and moisture.

Was debating cheaper options, but happier to have weather sealing and magnesium construction. Finally not concerned that I will run out of battery life on a shoot. Excellent ergonomics when portrait mode.
The price ! although very competitive with Clifton. Makes kit more bulky, be aware - doesn't fit very well with my Lowepro toploader.

Historically I used pro DSLR’s and found the size of my A7R IV too small in hand, poor little pinky pinky figure poking out like royalty drinking tea!!! The vertical grip sorts the issue and feels a little more chunky like my old pro body :-)
Works great, love that the functionality of the main bodies buttons are replicated as soon as connected (example, back button focusing works on the vertical grip) but at this cost it should have included a second battery :-(

It's a very comfortable and functional grip, has all necessary dials and buttons replicated for the portrait orientation. Would be nice if a hot swap for the batteries was also implemented (like on the Nikon MB-N10) so that each battery has its own door and can be replaced independently from another battery

Great grip, feels good. Solid build. And the fact that there’s a little safe space for the battery compartment door to live once removed from the camera is great thinking.
Totally overpriced. I can’t imagine the markup Sony have on these things. Obviously if you’ve got large hands and/or go out for extended periods of shoots and therefore need the extra grip or battery it’s perfect for your needs. Just expensive.
