Quality from edge to edge
Although covering a wide range of focal lengths, Tamron has taken an uncompromising approach to optical performance. Low Dispersion (LD) and Extra-Low Dispersion (XLD) lens elements mean that chromatic aberrations are minimal whilst making it possible to achieve superb high-quality images from edge to edge. A series of specialised elements control a variety of aberrations in order to achieve high sharpness and clarity. The optical design incorporates 18 elements in 14 groups.
A versatile lens
Benefitting the optical design is an RXD stepping motor (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive), which enables quick, near-silent autofocus performance to suit stills and video, along with full-time manual focus override and a minimum focusing distance of 7.5". Suiting this lens's use in harsh climates, it also sports a moisture-resistant construction along with a fluorine-coated front element to protect against fingerprints and smudging.
Built with mirrorless in mind
All-in-one zoom is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, however, can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide a 42-300mm equivalent focal length range. Bright f/2.8-5.6 maximum aperture range suits working in available lighting conditions, especially when working at the wide-angle end of the expansive zoom range.
Rugged design for the adventure photographer
A moisture-resistant construction benefits this lens' use in inclement conditions and a fluorine coating has also been applied to the front lens element to protect against dust, dirt, and smearing. A handy zoom Lock switch keeps the lens in its retracted position when not in use.
Superior up-close shooting performance
The 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 delivers superior close-up shooting performance for an all-in-one zoom. At the28mm wide-angle end, the MOD (Minimum Object Distance) is 0.19m (7.5 in), achieving a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.1. This performance, combined with the fast F2.8 aperture, allows users to move in close so that the subject is large while simultaneously showcasing a beautifully blurred background. Close-up shooting is remarkable at the telephoto end as well, with an MOD of 0.8m (31.5 in) and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.8. Users can capture impressive images with highly blurred backgrounds and create exceptional compositions.
Buttery bokeh
The sought after soft and rounded background blur in many a portrait photo can be achieved easily thanks to the rounded seven-blade diaphragm in this lens.
