The full 35mm frame sensor features a high signal-to-noise ratio and wide dynamic range as well as having phenomenal levels of detail. Also features a 12-channel readout. The high sensitivity CMOS sensor enables an ISO range of 100 – 1600 to be used with this being extendable up to ISO 6400 (equivalent) and down to ISO 50 (equivalent).
EXPEED image processing engine
The Nikon EXPEED image processor retains the quality captured by that special image sensor. It uses 14-bit A/D conversion and 16-bit image processing for superb levels of tonal gradation.
51-point Autofocus
The generous array of 51 focus points are individually selectable or configurable in 9-point, 21-point and 51-point coverage settings for incredibly accurate and fast focusing..
Quick response and Fast Shutter Speeds
With an approximate shutter lag of just 40 milliseconds and a 55 ms viewfinder black-out you can trust the Nikon D3X to fire when you need it to. The Kevlar and carbon fibre composite shutter has a maximum shutter speed of 1/8,000 sec and flash synchronization at up to 1/250 sec to back up these fast reactions, and that shutter has a long life with a standard rating of 300,000 cycles.

If you choose to compose using the 3-inch LCD monitor, its resolution of 920,000 dots will ensure a clear representation. Its wide, 170° viewing angle also means that it is ideal for shooting from low elevations or over the top of crowds. Live View with Autofocus is included and enables truly representative composition of images using the LCD monitor. Two modes are supported: Handheld and Tripod.
