The Blackmagic Design UltraStudio 4K Mini is a portable Thunderbolt 3 capture and playback device that can be used in your studio or out on location. The 4K Mini can be used for editing, colour and visual effects, live capture and on-set monitoring and features a host of connections/outputs. This includes a 12G-SDI, HDMI 2.0, built-in SD card reader as well as analogue connections so that you can achieve broadcast quality, 8 and 10-bit high dynamic range capture, in all formats up to 4K at 60p.

All the connectivity you need
The UltraStudio 4K Mini can connect to virtually any video device. This model includes SDI in and out, an HDMI out so that you can monitor on TV’s, monitors and projectors as well as analogue YUV/NTSC/PAL video and balanced analogue input for archiving from legacy analogue broadcast-type decks and the dual SDI outputs can switch to fill and key.
The 4K Mini includes video reference for sync broadcast to broadcast systems, RS-422 remote and an extra HDMI input and balanced audio out so that you can connect to in-studio audio monitoring.
Amazing quality in compressed or uncompressed
The 4K Mini can support both compressed video formats, like Apple ProRes and DNxHD as well as uncompressed 10-bit video so that you can use whichever file format suits your needs. Uncompressed video captures images as a pixel-for-pixel replica of the source with zero quality loss to give you the highest quality possible to give you the sharpest keying when using green screens, clean compositions, superior colour correction and much more.
12G-SDI Speeds
The UltraStudio 4K Mini supports both capture and playback of UHD and 4K 60p thanks to its 12G-SDI speeds over a single BNC cable and the multi-rate connections allows you to connect to all of your existing equipment.
You can connect to all of your SD and HD equipment and the 4K Mini also supports future compatibility with UHD formats up to 2160p60. Because the 12G-SDI outputs are dual-link, you can do stereoscopic or simultaneous fill and key in real-time up to 2160p30.
Portable, tough and elegant
The 4K Mini has been designed to be portable as well as for studio use. Because of this Blackmagic have had to ensure that it can endure being taken out in the field. They have achieved all of this while still maintaining a sleek and elegant look.
The 4K Mini features a stylish front panel with an integrated colour LCD and fast button controls while the rear boasts standard BNC and HDMI connectors for video connections.
The unit is also very compact and only takes up 1/3 of a rack width allowing you to fit up to 3 of them in a single rack. This also makes it an unobtrusive, yet stylish addition to your desktop.
Thunderbolt 3
The UltraStudio 4K Mini has been built on Thunderbolt 3 technology to provide an incredibly fast single cable connection that ensures low latency and highly accurate time synchronisation for the highest quality capture and playback.
The 4K Mini is powered from the Thunderbolt connection, it can run from a laptop but also includes an AC power connection so that it can be plugged in when at the studio. It even provides 45W trickle power via Thunderbolt 3 to the connected computer so it stays charged when connected.

The 4K Mini has been designed specifically for the Mac platform's unique needs but is also compatible with Windows and Linux operating systems.
MAC
The included drivers have been optimised for high performance video, plus the features needed for editing software such as DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro X, Premiere Pro CC, and Avid Media Composer. Visual effects get full compatibility with Fusion, After Effects CC and Photoshop CC. For audio, get compatibility with ProTools, Steinberg Nuendo and Cubase. For streaming use OBS, Wirecast, Livestream Producer.
Windows
For Windows you get access to a massive range of software because UltraStudio supports WDM and DirectShow. For editing you can use DaVinci Resolve, Avid Media Composer, Premiere Pro CC, MAGIX Vegas Pro, Corel VideoStudio Pro, CyberLink Power Director and MAGIX Video Pro. For visual effects use Fusion, After Effects CC and Photoshop CC. Audio software supported includes Steinberg Nuendo and Cubase. When streaming you get compatibility with Flash Media Live Encoder, Xsplit Broadcaster, Wirecast and Livestream Producer.
