Olympus 100-400mm F5-6.3 IS ED M.Zuiko Lens, the ultimate in portability.
Thanks to a recently updated lens roadmap from Olympus we can take a detailed look at the latest lens to be added to the M.Zuiko range.
Suitable for micro four-thirds systems and staying true to the portable ethos from Olympus, the ED 100-400mm F5-6.3 IS is a versatile telephoto zoom lens in a compact and lightweight body that’s perfect for the adventure and outdoors photographer.
Perfect for a variety of subjects and scenarios, this Olympus lens not only provides fast and accurate autofocus for wildlife and sports but has also been optimised for those shooting video thanks to a super quiet AF system.
Travel Friendly
When compared to the full-frame focal length equivalent of 200-800mm, the compact Olympus M.Zuiko ED 100-400mm f/5-6.3 is a far more transportable telephoto zoom lens. It can fit safely and securely in hand luggage and is light enough to go unnoticed in a hiking bag on a long weekend.
Super Sharp Images
The in-built image stabilisation technology ensures that your images will look tack sharp even when shooting hand-held at 400mm. Photograph and film without worrying about blur and capture the shots you want without the need for a bulky tripod.
All-Weather Companion
Make the most of the British weather with this telephoto zoom lens. Feel comfortable when caught short in all-weathers, with classic Olympus weather sealing as seen in the Pro lens line-up for Olympus mirrorless cameras, the ED 100-400mm f/5.0-6.3 offers peace of mind with an incredible dust and splash-proof build.
Steady and Sturdy for Filming
If you’ve ever wanted to capture footage of your subject in motion then the Olympus 100-400mm f5-6.3 lens will support your cinematic creativity. Smooth aperture changes and a super quiet autofocus system makes this lens great for recording. Paired with the lens’ image stabilisation, you have all the tools you need to create professional-level videos.
Capture Fast Moving Subjects
With the widest aperture being F5 and just F6.3 at the telephoto end, the Olympus 100-400mm lens gives you the opportunity to work well in low-light without compromising quality.
See further than ever before!
Transform the 100-400mm focal length into a super-telephoto zoom with the help of an Olympus 1.4x or 2.0x teleconverter. Experience no loss in quality when shooting at the full-frame equivalent of 1600mm and keep the ability to shoot at a minimum focus distance of 1.3m.
Who is the lens most suitable for?
As with most telephoto zoom lenses, wildlife and sports are top of the list. With the aperture range on the 100-400mm being the perfect match for aviation photography. Allowing you to freeze the action but still capture motion in the rotor blades.
What do we think?
We were lucky enough to get our hands on the lens for a week. We tested the portability out on a few walks and were very surprised with how the lens performed at the extremities of its focal length. Head over to our blog to have a read for yourself!
