Opticron offers a superb range of spotting scopes and kits for a variety of uses. The Opticron MM4 77 GA ED, for instance, is a lightweight and compact fieldscope featuring a 77mm lens for maximum brightness and magnification when viewing out in the wilderness. These qualities, as well as the dual focus wheels for both quick and minor adjustments, make it a favourite for viewing at a distance. Conversely, the Opticron MM3 60 GA Spotting Scope Body is considered a travelscope small enough to be packed in carry-on luggage but still delivers bright, sharp images, with good colour contrast, making it a great choice for anyone limited on space when taking their scoping setup with them.
Angled or Straight?
This will depend entirely on your use. If you choose a straight spotting scope, it will need to be level with your eyes for viewing, so may be more comfortable for any activity that will have you lying down and spotting for any length of time, or for those needing to switch between binoculars and their spotting scope regularly. Angled spotting scopes tend to be preferred for birding due to the ability to have them at a lower (and so less visible) viewing level. The curve of an angled scope also allows you to change the viewing angle making them more easily manoeuvrable.
