DJI Zenmuse X5S with 15mm Lens

The DJI Zenmuse X5S is a gimbal that comes equipped with an uprated Micro 4/3 sensor, has a dynamic range of 12.8 stops, improved signal-to-noise ratio and colour sensitivity and is compatible with eight different M4/3 lenses with focal lengths ranging from 9mm-45mm.*

This version of the gimbal comes with the DJI MFT 15mm/1.7 ASPH Lens.

*Sold separately

Perfect for the Inspire 2

When combined with the CineCore 2.0 image processing system of the Inspire 2* the Zenmuse X5S is capable of capturing 5.2K 30fps CinemaDNG video and Apple ProRes video* as well as 4K 60fps using H.264 and 4K 30fpsusing H.265 (both at 100Mbps). Continuous DNG burst shooting at 20fps with 20.8MP images is also supported. The Zenmuse X5S was designed to keep pace with the rigours of high-end professional aerial imaging.

*You may need to purchase a licence key to record with CinemaDNG or Apple ProRes.

Improved Micro 4/3 Sensor

The onboard Micro 4/3 sensor has been upgraded, significantly improving image quality. With a pixel size of 3.4μm, this 20.8-megapixel sensor captures more detail than the previous sensor. It has 12.8 stops of dynamic range as well as a better signal-to-noise ratio and colour sensitivity than the X5R, allowing it to create clear, low-noise images in low-light environments.

List of compatible lenses

The DJI Zenmuse X5S is compatible with the following eight professional lenses;*

*A balancing ring is needed for some lenses. More compatible lenses will be available.

Hollywood-Grade Video

Using CineCore 2.0, the Zenmuse X5S records video at a maximum resolution of 5.2K/30fps in CinemaDNG 12bit1, 5.2K 30fps Apple ProRes 422 HQ and 4K 30fps Apple ProRes 4444 XQ (no alpha)2. Additional recording options include video in 4K/60fps using H.264 or oversampling video in 4K/30fps using H.264/H.265, both with a bitrate of 100Mbps.

Lossless In-Video Single and Burst Photo Capture

Using only the Micro SD card, 20.8MP stills can be captured at 14fps in Burst Mode in JPEG+DNG. Using the DJI CINESSD opens up 20fps continuous DNG Burst Mode with a maximum image resolution of 20.8 megapixels. Stills can also be taken during video recording without interruption.

Enhanced Camera Stabilisation

Stabilising the Zenmuse X5S is a highly optimised 3-axis gimbal with pinpoint-precise motor rotation with a control accuracy of ±0.01° powered by a dedicated processor. Rather than rely on electrical slip rings — as is common with many gimbals — the Zenmuse X5S uses a unique mechanically limited design and concealed wires to ensure more stable data transmission and greater durability. Vibration is eliminated using three damping balls and a lightweight damping board, creating a seamlessly smooth video. 360° rotation remains possible through gimbal rotation and smooth aircraft yaw. Stable, smooth footage* can be captured even when using a 90mm** lens.

*Equivalent to 35mm camera’s standard focal length

**Exposure time must be equal to or longer than 1/60 in GPS mode

Long-range Camera and Focus Control

Take control over every camera setting from afar, including focus, aperture, and format, directly in the DJI GO 4 app. Precision control also extends to focus, with DJI GO 4 and the optional DJI Focus, offering focus control across the entire transmission range. Using DJI Focus, no additional cables or motors are needed and new Lightbridge technology sends all signals as far as 4.3mi (7km) away*.

* Unobstructed, free of interference, when FCC compliant.

Do I need to register my drone?

Yes, you will need to register this drone. Any drone exceeding 250g will need to be registered. If you require more information for this then please visit the CAA’s DMARES website. If you have already registered and have an Operator ID, ensure this is attached to your drone.

Where can I fly in the UK?

If you have not taken a drone training course you will have to adhere to the rules of the Open Category’s A3 subcategory (fly far from people).

  • No uninvolved people are present within the area of flight;
  • No flight within 150m horizontally of residential, commercial, industrial, and recreational areas.

If you would like more freedom with your flying it is best to take a drone training course.

Training options

  • A2 CofC
  • An A2 CofC allows operations in the A2 subcategory (fly near to people) of the Open Category. This permits flights up to 50m horizontally from uninvolved people. This is allowed during the Transitional Period, which runs in the UK until December 31, 2022.
  • GVC
  • For operations which pose a greater risk than the Open Category or fall outside the Open Category perimetres, a GVC is required to apply for an Operational Authorisation to fly in the Specific Category.

Can I use this drone commercially?

Yes. Having an A2 CofC allows you to operate commercially. But the A2 CofC is not specifically a commercial permission; it is a competency which permits flights in the A2 subcategory, regardless of recreational or commercial flying.

You can fly commercially in the Open Category without an A2 CofC, but your operations will be restricted to the conditions of the A3 subcategory.

The GVC allows you to apply for an Operational Authorisation, which has replaced the Permission for Commercial Operation (PfCO), to fly in the Specific Category - geared towards enterprise drone pilots and for operations outside the remit of the Open Category.
