High-performance AF/AE
105 all-selectable cross-type sensors are highly sensitive down to -4.5 EV at the central point of focus. It will also focus smoothly at -4 EV across all other points. This makes the D6 incredibly dependable in poor lighting conditions.
A contrast-detection autofocus system provides powerful Face-detection, wide-area, normal area and subject-tracking AF. Group-Area AF offers unparalleled tracking with plenty of custom settings to match your needs. Advanced scene recognition technology offers superb subject acquisition. Perfect for sports and more! Define your focus starting point when using Auto Area AF to prioritise your subject’s eye or allow 3D Tracking.
When using an f1.4 lens at ISO100, the metering range works from -3 to 20 EV in matrix or centre-weighted metering. The D6 offers a range of metering methods when producing stills and video recording. These include matrix, centre weighted, highlight and spot metering. A scene recognition system utilises the metering and image sensors.
Rapid precision
Never miss a shot. AF/AE will comfortably achieve a burst rate up to 14 fps or 10.5 fps with AE in silent photo mode.

The D6 combines a 20.8 MP full-frame CMOS sensor with the EXPEED 6 image processor plus 180K-pixel RGB sensor to offer high quality, high-performance imaging. The broad ISO range of 100-102400 is extendable to ISO 3 280 000 - ISO 50. Pair these with Nikon’s superb range of F-Mount lenses and achieve stunning results.
0.72x Optical Viewfinder with OLED elements
A wide field of view combined with sharp viewing is undelayed. Roll and pitch indicators are displayed for precise shooting.
Powerful video production
A broad array of video options includes H.264/MPEG-4 AVC and 4K UHD 30p recording. HD video can be captured up to 60p in a MOV/MP4 format.
Electronic Vibration Reduction, Focus Peaking, Timelapse Movies, racketeering, exposure, smoothing and silent mode are all available to help you produce awe-inspiring results.
Monitor your video with the D6’s HDMI output. An inbuilt stereo microphone and speaker allow quick convenient recording while external microphones and headphones can be connected for the more audio conscious content creators.

The D6 features built-in Bluetooth, 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi and GPS. Wired LAN will support 1000BASE-T standards and will reach 15% faster communication speeds than the D5.
