Fujifilm X-E5 | A Refined Classic | Hands On Review
I was invited to Valencia to test out the fantastic X-E5 from Fujifilm.
Watch the full video below to find out.
Key Features
Fujifilm’s X-E series has served as a cheaper entry alternative to their X-Pro line of cameras. It has been over two years since the release of the X-E4 and many customers felt that the camera was not premium enough and Fujifilm has listened. One of the main complaints was about the plastic body. It just didn’t feel durable enough. To answer that complaint, the X-E5 has been constructed from anodized aluminium which is not only more robust but gives a lovely metallic finish. It is also worth noting that we now have a more contoured grip for easier handling. Another response to negative feedback from the X-E4.
While we are on the subject of upgrades, the X-E5 offers significantly greater resolution thanks to its 40MP X-Trans CMOS 5HR sensor that is partnered with the X-Processor 5 similar to that of the X-100 VI. Those aren’t the only similarities to that camera however as the body is almost identical. The X100 VI was an incredible success (much like the X100 V before it) and there are still many people waiting to get one so the X-E5 may well be the alternative you have been looking for as it offers the same features but with the option of interchangeable lenses.
Other fantastic features include a dedicated film simulation dial similar to the X-T50 but now you have the option to create and store your own film sim recipes in the FS1-FS3 slots that you can find on the new dial to add to the 20 film simulations that are already included.
There is a new aspect ratio option similar to that found on the GFX100RF as well as a new classic display mode that appears through the EVF that gives a more retro film camera feel.
The camera features 7 stops of IBIS, enhanced face/eye AF and subject detection, up to 8fps with the mechanical shutter and up to 20fps with the electronic shutter though there is a 1.29x crop applied to this.
Lastly we have a 3” 2 way tilt LCD, a 2.36 million dot EVF, 1 SD card slot along with the NP-W126S battery as well as an upgraded rope strap (same GFX100RF).
