Tourbox Neo Vs Tourbox Elite

A few months ago we had the opportunity to get our hands on the Tourbox Neo and we brought you an in-depth review of its capabilities and how you might be able to use it to enhance your editing process. Click here to read>

Now with the release of the new Tourbox Elite, we wanted to dive back into the Tourbox Controller Range and examine what sets these two fully customisable editing controllers apart.

Connecting With The Tourbox

The overall build of the Elite and the Neo are predominantly the same, same size, same weight and same controller layout. The Neo tethers to your computer via a USB-C cable the Elite has Dual-Channel Bluetooth built-in, letting you throw the Tourbox Elite in your bag with your laptop or tablet for easy on-the-go editing.

A small change, that allows you the connective freedom to work on the move and can pair with two computers at any time. Making it fantastic to have paired up with your laptop at home and your tablet for on-site editing. Ideal for content creators who have to bring their work with them on the move.

New Tactile Feedback

Haptic Feedback has been introduced into the Tourbox Elite, this tactile feature along with the simple layout and design of the Tourbox allows you to have a more intuitive editing experience. The ability to fully customise your controls to suit your editing style, allows you to use the Tourbox instinctually for one-handed editing.

Improve Your Work Follow With Macros Commands

The Tourbox Elite has been designed with the ability to set macros commands to singular buttons, opening up the opportunity to perform a series of edits with one click of a button. For example, when editing in Photoshop you can have a macro command to duplicate a layer, add a filter, adjust exposure and select the crop tool, all at the press of one button. Perfect for batch editing photographs

Improved Scroll Wheels

The two main scroll wheels have been upgraded in the Tourbox Elite. The Tourbox Elite features two clickable buttons that have been built into the main scroll wheels, allowing for even more short key options. The scroll wheels in the Tourbox Neo can be used to alter your selected element such as exposure levels or audio levels.

No Expansion USB Port

The expansion USB Port on the Tourbox Neo has been removed from the Tourbox Elite, this could potentially affect those with a limited number of USB ports built into their device. However, the use of the Bluetooth system of the Tourbox Elite could free up a USB port that was being used when having the Neo connected via its USB cable.

For Professionals or Amateur

With not too much between it, the price difference could be the big deciding factor between the Neo and the Elite. The additional features introduced to the Elite are clearly for the benefit of on-the-move professionals, but that doesn't detract from the clear capabilities of the Tourbox Neo. We might suggest that the Neo can be a great addition to an amateur content creator's setup or someone hoping to make their editing more efficient.

Final thoughts

The Tourbox Elite and the Tourbox Neo overall at the heart have the same overall software and structure making it almost impossible to say if one is absolutely better than the other, it really does come down to the small details. Tourbox has clearly spent a good amount of thought and engineering to improve what was already a fantastic controller and create one suitable for any professional editor.

Ultimately the Tourbox system has been designed to improve your productivity and workflow, so getting the right one for you is more based on how you see yourself using it.

Are you editing on the move, and finding yourself set up at different locations each day? Then The TourBox Elite would suit your on-the-move lifestyle to a T.  Or do you enjoy having a more permanent structure to your work environment, bringing all your photos or footage back to your office and working on it from there? Then the Tourbox Neo would be a great permanent feature on your desk to be easily at hand when you need it.

When all is said and done, the choice is up to you…
